Food Table Team
Duties/Responsibilities
Meet for prayer and fellowship at 8am Sunday morning Carpool to Skid Row Maintain sanitary conditions, use gloves for serving Greet and interact with guests Dress should be modest (no tank tops, short shorts or anything inappropriate for a church outreach event). There are a variety of roles you can play during the outreach: Setting up of food tables —this includes putting up the tables, setting out the plates, utensils, cups, etc. and the various food items for distribution. Drinks are usually first in the line, then the main food items, then bread and desserts, and finally water bottles. At the end of the table are also Bible tracts and Bibles that people can pick up as they leave the line. Passing out of drinks to the line—while the table is being set up, 2 or 3 volunteers can start passing out drinks to those in line. Passing out of food at the tables—usually 6 to 8 volunteers are needed to distribute the food. Volunteers are encouraged to be cheerful and positive - sharing God’s love with a smile or a kind word - because they are often the first ones the homeless people get to really talk to. Evangelism and prayer – as each volunteer feels led it is encouraged that we begin interacting with our brothers and sisters on the streets. This is accomplished by simple conversations, asking them if it is alright if we pray for them. This is the time when we can make new friends, deepen existing relationships, and encourage our homeless brethren into having a committed relationship with Jesus Christ.
