                                                                              Picture
                                                                              How often do I serve?
Every person is placed on a specific team and will generally serve once a month.  Like all other volunteering opportunities at CA you will be on Team A, B, C, or D.  Due to the fact that some months have 5 weekends in them, you may serve two times in a month (this should only happen once or twice a year).

Can I serve more than once a month?
Of course!  We would love you to!  We do ask that you make sure to at least serve on the assigned team you have been placed on.

Will I always have the same leader?
Generally speaking, no, you will not.  Sunday Outreach Leaders are on a different rotation than volunteers.  Leaders are assigned to serve on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, (or the occasional 5th) weekend of the month.  This will give you the opportunity to meet and work with our different leaders!

Where do I park on Sunday mornings if I’m going to Skid Row/Day Laborers Outreach?
In keeping with the wishes of Christian Assembly, we encourage people to park at the Eagle Rock Mall.  However, parking is also usually available behind the church office building and along Colorado Blvd.

What if someone asks me for money on Skid Row?
We discourage anyone giving money to people on Skid Row.  We encourage everyone to leave money and all valuables (wallets, purses, jewelry, etc.) in your car trunk while serving.

How should I dress when serving on Skid Row/Day Laborers Outreach?
Comfortable and modest. No tank tops, short shorts or anything inappropriate for a church outreach event.

Can I bring my kids along with me to Skid Row/Day Laborers Outreach?
A general rule is that children aged 8 and up are more than welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.  It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to watch their child at all times as everyone will be busy serving.

Is it safe on Skid Row?
We have been very blessed over the years of serving on Skid Row to have never had an issue with safety. Nevertheless, we encourage everyone to stay in groups of at least three with one male per group if doing any street evangelism away from the larger group.

How can I stay involved with the Skid Row ministry during the week or at times when I cannot serve because of other obligations?
The majority of our volunteers are part of our email group called: “jesus-loves-skid-row@googlegroups.com” wherein we share our important announcements, weekly prayer requests, our testimonies/stories, praise reports, and anything else pertinent to the ministry.  Many are also members of the “CA Redeem Team” on Facebook where pictures and stories are regularly posted by volunteers.  We also meet every first Friday of the month for prayer and fellowship at different members’ houses and we try to meet once a month for potlucks and picnics.

I am busy on the weekends, how else can I serve the homeless?
Two new opportunities exist to share God’s love outside of the Sunday outreaches.  The first is through the GED program, in conjunction with the Salvation Army Harbor Light in the heart of Skid Row.  From Monday to Friday, volunteers get to teach/tutor the homeless and establish strong bonds of friendship while helping them obtain their high school equivalency diplomas.  The second is through the discipleship meetings one night each week at Skid Row (exact time and location to be determined) wherein volunteers get to connect with our homeless brethren and mentor them into a deeper and stronger relationship with Jesus Christ.
